Purex Almost destroyed my washer

I was super happy and eager to try out the new Purex 3 in 1 laundry sheets. With four small boys, I'm always looking for ways to limit my time on chores. At first, I was really happy with the sheets. They seemed to be working out great and they were saving time.

Then one day my new (less than 3 months old) washing machine, stopped working. It wouldn't drain or spin. I called the repair man since it was under warranty.

Imagine my surprise when the repair man pulled out the remains of 6 Purex 3 in 1 sheets. They had somehow gotten sucked into the hoses and nearly burned the engine of the washing machine up. Guess what else? That would NOT have been covered under the warranty!

I have one of the new front loading washing machines, so I quickly scanned the box and their corporate website for any warnings about using the sheets with that type of machine. There were none. In fact, on the box it states that they work with front and top loading machines.

Not so much.

I am emailing Henkel corporation today to let them know of the problem. Your clothes might be clean and you might save time but you MIGHT lose your washing machine in the process.

Buyer beware!

Samantha...I too have bought several bags of the Ultra Packs and they ALWAYS have busted pods in there. My last bag had about 8 of them. Purex is one of the least expensive laundry detergents on the market but I pay extra for the Ultra Packs and feel like I am throwing my money away for the pods that are busted. Grrrrrr...

WOW! Wish i had found this site a couple weeks ago. We recently bought a condo that came with the Whirlpool duet washer/dryer. When we finally had need to wash clothes, the washer would not drain or spin. After checking the drain pump strainer (empty) we were ready to purchase a new washer dryer set. I put on my maytag repairman's coveralls and proceeded to pull the drain hose from the tub. Alas, the clog was so large it had displaced the plastic ball valve and cup inside the drain hose. The clog consisted of a felt like material that we attributed to the 3-1 sheets used by the previous owners. After removing and reassembling the washer, the first load of clothes ran fine. The second load resulted in the same symptoms. Again the coveralls were put on and the drain hose inspected. This time more of a dryer lint substance was the culprit. We assumed this was leftover Purex/Purell sheets that had accumulated in the tub over the years. Once I cleaned that out and reassembled the washer, we had no problems the rest of the time we used it. Liquid detergent only for us. DO NOT USE THESE SHEETS!

I liked the idea of the 3 in 1 but first realized there was a problem when I found a sheet under the inside rubber seal of our Kenmore Elite HE4T front loading washer. A few months ago, got the F2 error code and it stopped draining. Lucky for me my husband was able to clean the drainpipe using instructions on the internet & found it was clogged mostly with the 3 in 1 Purex sheets. Stopped using them and didn't realize there was a problem until the F2 error code came again. It was taking a long time to drain - getting the SUD message, then F2. This time he found a leftover clog of the sheets in the drain closer to the bottom of the washer. Been there for a good while - hope the pump keeps working.

Whoever invented these pieces of crap should be shot. I was told by the salesman, when we bought our new washer and dryer three months ago "they work fine". Not so much after pulling one out of my water pump, which by the way was not covered under warranty.

Purex 3 n 1 sheets have ruined many of my husbands dress shirts, work pants, my blouses and slacks. My clothes come out of the dryer with oil stains..at first I thought it was due to something in the fairly new dryer..so I took a damp towel and wiped it out...still the same problem many of our clothes have been ruined. After reading complaints from many others they have the same problem from the 3-1 sheets. It appears to be the strip on the end of the sheet is causing the damage. I have used 3 in 1 for about three months and could not figure out what was causing the stain problem..but now know why they appeared! I will never use these sheets again and would encourage others not to unless they like wearing oil stained clothing.

Follow up on my listed above situation:

I contacted the Purex manufacturer, Henkel Products, and they compensated me for my repairman bill and sent free product coupons, as the sheets were the ONLY reason why my three year old washer stopped working properly.

The lady suggested using a mesh lingerie laundry bag to use up the remaining 3 in 1 sheets. I suggested making a sheet that didnt get clogged in my washer pump. :) (havent tried this yet as I am leery of the 3 in 1 sheets, which I used to LOVE!)

All in all, a good experience - they helped me with my situation right away, they were pleasant to deal with, and it was resolved pretty quickly.

Thanks a lot, Purex. We were ready to buy a new washer for the same reason (not draining, constantly flashing an error code). Thankfully, I checked this site first. Question: on a Whirlpool Duet, is it difficult to check the water pump and/or is it very expensive to call a repair person to do this? Our dryer is more than 5 yrs. old and I don't want to sink a lot of money into it. Thanks!

I just had the same problem. I started using the Purex 3-in-1 laundry sheets this month then, suddenly, my Frigidaire front loading washer (2 years old) stopped draining and spinning. The repairman took the washer apart to get to the drain pump and found the culprit: A Purex 3-in-1 laundry sheet that had been sucked in. The laundry sheets are a great idea, but they obviously have a huge deficiency in their design. I sent a complaint to Purex yesterday... we'll see what happens.

I did have this problem recently also. My front loader is only three years ago. While I have used Purex products before and like them, my washer stopped draining two weeks ago. After getting someone to come and look at the pump, hose, etc. there was two or three Purex sheets lodged in the "cup" inside the large drain hose. I loved the Purex sheets for their convenience, but cant afford to have a repairman come each time to take out 3 in 1 sheets that have gotten stuck. It says it is for Front Loading HE washers on the packaging. It is not my washer, but its Purex not doing all their testing to see that this is becoming a common problem with sheets getting stuck in the washer drain pump or hose! I am also contacting the company to complain!

Thank goodness I only bought the try-it size. Just came home from the store and wanted to read what others thought of the is product. Well...I'll try it. However, first, the sheet will get tossed into a lingere zip bag before I use this thing. Thanks for sharing.
