Subject: Complaint Regarding Denial of BMO Promotional Bonus
To Whom It May Concern,
I am submitting this complaint regarding BMO and its refusal to honor a promotional cash bonus offer tied to a new account opening.
BMO advertised a promotion offering a $2,500 cash bonus for customers who:
Opened a qualifying new Growth Money Market account,
Deposited at least $250,000 or new money within 30 days of account opening, and
Maintained the required balance for an additional 90-day period (days 31 through 120).
I opened the account on December 18, 2025. I deposited $250,000 into the account on January 14, 2026, which was within the required 30-day funding window.
I maintained the required balance of $250,000 through the promotional holding period and did not transfer funds of $7,500 to my wife until April 16th or 17th, 2026. BMO - Sr. Premier Relationship Manager Mr. Parry Singh confirmed that this was fine and the promotional incentive payment would be honored. Additionally, at the time of the transfer I was traveling in Europe, where I believe it may have already been April 17 due to the time difference. I have attached the Delta screen shot and requested the air record for proof that I was in Amsterdam.
BMO is now claiming that I failed to satisfy the promotional requirements because the withdrawal occurred a few hours before the exact expiration of the 120-day period according to their internal timing calculations. I believe this position is unreasonable and inconsistent with the plain language and consumer understanding of the promotion.
The promotional terms described the requirement in terms of calendar days, not precise hourly calculations tied to the exact account-opening timestamp. By any reasonable interpretation, I fulfilled the stated requirements by:
Funding the account within 30 days,
Maintaining the qualifying balance throughout the required 90-day maintenance period, and
Not withdrawing funds until April 16/17, which corresponds with the completion of the promotional timeframe.
I am requesting that the CFPB review this matter and assist in ensuring that BMO honors the advertised $2,500 promotional bonus.
I have retained documentation relating to:
The promotional offer terms,
Account opening date,
Deposit confirmation,
Account statements showing maintenance of the required balance, and
The timing of the withdrawal transaction.
Airline travel dated documents.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Claimed loss: $2500
Desired outcome: Honoring the $2500 Cash Bonus paid for opening the Growth Money Market new account promotion and successfuly completing requirements.
