I showed up for a scheduled platelet donation only to be told that the Bloomington MN location will no longer allow me to attempt a platelet donation because I am "bringing the center's numbers down." I'm being permanently deferred from platelet donations just because I'm bringing the center's numbers down? Are you kidding me? My personal physician says my hemoglobin counts are just fine AND I AM NOT ANEMIC - if ARC would actually use the traditional blood test instead of the thumb reader there would be more qualified donors! It's unfortunate that ARC doesn't offer -O blood donors the same, if not better incentives than platelet donors - what kind of twisted, backwards thinking is that? Also, rather than receive a courtesy call from the guy sitting at the front desk doing absolutely nothing this afternoon, I drove 25 miles each way to be given this wonderfully delightful news only after arriving and being checked in. With gas prices at an all-time high, this is unacceptable. Come on American Red Cross, you can do better than that!
